The TRM Supplements — Power Your Performance Race was reduced to just four runners and 7/2 chance Clever And Cool came out on top in a tactical affair at Naas. Vernet was sent off the 8/13 favourite in the absence of both Red Letter Bray (off feed) and Pandora Lovegood (ground) and made the running in this seven-furlong event.
Rory Cleary produced Clever And Cool to challenge on the outer inside the final furlong and the Jim Bolger-trained filly quickened up to beat the odds-on shot by three quarters of a length. Go Sioux Me was a further length and a half back in third.
Bolger was represented by his travelling head lad Ger Flynn who said, “She’s been slowly away a couple of times but hasn’t been running that badly.
“It’s great to get that win. Marguerite (Bolger, part owner) just had a cataract removed yesterday and decided to make the journey so it’s great.
“It was always going to be a tactical affair but once she got there, she put the race to bed. That’s what she shows us at home on the gallop every day.”
Clever And Cool was adding to a debut win on testing ground at Cork last autumn.
