City does it again at Leopardstown
Hard Rock City has been a fantastic servant to connections and the Danzig nine-year-old gained the eighth win of his career and his fifth success over the course and distance when arriving late and fast to grab The Tooth Fairy by a neck in the Leopardstown Pavilion September Handicap.
Pat Smullen 's mount was plum last turning-in but the 16/1 shot knows where the line is at this venue and he arrived just in time to prevail.
Michael Grassick junior, son and namesake of the winning trainer, said: "My father is playing golf in Portugal. He got the days mixed up and thought it was on tomorrow, like last year. This horse won this race four years ago, he is a classy type but he has got older and wiser. Pat said afterwards that they went very fast and he thought that they couldn't sustain that gallop. The ground was ideal for him and we'll try to find a similar handicap for him now."
