John Feane’s Lightning Charlie got in from his place as first reserve and he made the most of the opportunity in the finale at Dundalk, the Winter Series Awards Day Saturday 4th April Handicap.
Mark Enright, who got a kick in the parade ring earlier before going out to work horses before racing, was in the plate on the pretty easy to back 12/1 chance.
He overcame a far from clear passage to trump favourite and former stable companion, Billyfairplay by a short head.
“I was delighted he got up. Billyfairplay, that got claimed last week, ran a cracker as well. They are two tough genuine horses,” said Feane.
“The boys are lucky. It's Darren (Sheridan's) first horse and Pat (Lynch) is very lucky as well.”
B.M. Coen, rider of Sabrina Fairchild trained by Sarah Lynam, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was checked after turning into the home straight.
S. Foley, rider of Pillar (GB) trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount got tight for room inside the final furlong.
A.J. Slattery, rider of Hee Haw trained by Mrs Julie Cashin, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount tired quickly in the closing stages.
