Celebrity Sevi lands the October Handicap
Celebrity Sevi for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen landed the Naas October Handicap keeping on well to score by two and a half lengths.
The winning son of Peintre Celebre (who also sired earlier winner Pittoni won his maiden on his fifth attempt at Sligo in June by an easy ten lengths.
He then ran well at Killarney last time out to finish fourth behind Zaralabad.
Having opened at 10/1 on track he was well supported and went off at 7/1.
The first reserve Highly Efficient for Tom Mullins and Leigh Roche at 14/1 made a valiant attempt to make all but found just one too good as he was headed by the winner a furlong out. Tawaagg for Willie Mullins and Conor Hoban finished a further three lengths back in third at 16/1 while the 3/1 favourite Princeton Plains could only manage eighth for Eddie Harty and Niall McCullagh.
Winning trainer Dermot Weld said afterwards: "He ran a cracker at Killarney. The ground was a bit fast for him there.
"The easier ground today suited him. He will make a lovely dual purpose horse. He won’t run again this season and will go hurdling in the new year.
