Catch The Eye scores despite market drift
Catch The Eye who lost her maiden tag at the Galway Festival, followed up this evening in the second race on the card, the Seamus Weldon www.mowers.ie Race, for her trained Dermot Weld with Pat Smullen aboard.
The 3yo daughter of Oratorio finished second on her first two starts of the year both of which came at Naas, but got her head in front last time out at Galway when winning easily at the odds of 8/15 favourite.
Today she was second choice of the punters going off at 5/2, having drifted from 7/4 this morning, with recent Curragh maiden winner Puttore the favourite at 6/4.
The winner was travelling best in behind the favourite over a furlong from home and when Pat Smullen asked her to quicken up, she did just that, getting on top inside the final furlong to score by two lengths at the line.
Winning rider Pat Smullen said afterwards: "The ground was big help to her, we were waiting for an ease in it. She won nicely and she is progressing nicely."
