The Damian English-trained Cash Or Casualty stuck his head out gamely to land the spoils in the Exchange Inn & Kevin Brodericks Bar Handicap at Listowel.
Connor King tracked the leader Reposer in the seven-furlong contest before launching his challenge early in the straight.
He got to the front with over a furlong to run but was all out close home as Footprint came with a charge on the rail and Canary Row also flashed home on the outer.
The later got up close home for the runner-up spot, a neck off the winner, with a short-head back to Footprint in third. Late finisher Ondeafears also ran on to be a close fourth, a neck further behind.
It was a return to form for the 16/1 winner who had been mid-division in a couple of competitive Curragh contests on his latest two starts.
“For a while I thought he was a quick ground horse but Rory (Cleary) said that six furlongs on soft ground might suit him,” said English.
“He seems to handle any type of ground and he's tough and hardy. He's so hardy as he was lame last week. The farrier James Stafford did a great job with him.
“He's in again on Friday over 1m1f. It's a big pot so it might be worth a go.”
7/4 favourite Bracing Breeze who trailed in last, was found to be slightly lame post race.
Shane Foley was given a one-day ban for careless riding after his mount Ondeafears was found to have caused interference to Seal Rock in the straight.
