Capitol Hill lorded it over his rivals in the seven furlong handicap at Galway as Joseph O’Brien brought up a double on the afternoon.
O’Brien steered John Joseph Murphy’s past front-runner Kingdomforthebride as the field were homeward bound, and the three-year-old in the blinkers quickly established a clear lead.
He stayed on well up the hill to land the spoils at 6/1. Cairduil, who was very well supported from 12/1 to 13/2 on the off, never looked like reeling the winner in but did keep on for second a length and three parts behind.
John Joseph Murphy’s son and assistant trainer George Murphy commented: “I thought he was a bit free early on, but Joseph gave him a fine ride and he won well.
“He won well in Killarney where the ground was quite fast, but that proves he may be quite a good hurdler come the winter time.
“He’s schooled well over hurdles at home and jumps well. He deserves a bit of a break now.”
Wednesday’s winner Toufan Express the 5/1 joint favourite, came in third another length down.
Joseph O’Brien had earlier won the first race on Iniesta
