Caldwell Potter completed a quick double for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy at Navan this afternoon when landing the odds in the Headfort Arms Hotel Maiden Hurdle.
The grey son of Martaline was sent off the 8/13 favourite against 24 rivals and the bumper winner was going one better having filled the runner-up spot in a Punchestown maiden hurdle last month.
The French-bred gelding was prominent throughout and took control after two out with Kennedy not needing to exert himself too much on the run-in as his mount kept on strongly to beat Gorgeous Tom by seven lengths. Dr Eggman was the same distance further back in third with the remainder of the runners well strung out behind on the testing ground.
Elliott and Kennedy were also on the mark in the opening maiden hurdle with Jigoro
Elliott said, "It was a good performance, Jack said he's a lovely horse and he gallops.
“He was a weak horse but he's got a lot stronger.
“We'll try and keep it small with him if we can. He's a chaser in the making, he's a brother to Mighty Potter.”
