Caim Hill (7/1) put a disappointing performance in Galway behind him when staying on well to claim the two and a half mile handicap hurdle at Bellewstown.

Philip Fenton’s nine-year-old finished second last in a 19-runner two mile flat handicap at the Galway Festival when held up in mid-division.

Prior to that he had won a handicap chase in Kilbeggan and was second in a handicap hurdle at Listowel.

Tonight he was always prominent and kept Cnoc Na Sioga (8/1) at bay after the last by a length and a quarter. Shabra Charity (12/1) was three and a half lengths away in third.

“I’m very pleased with him. I don’t know what happened him in Galway. He never rose a gallop but has been fine since,” Philip Fenton said.

“He’s been freshend up and got the job done. I was glad to see the rain last night. He could go back over fences, maybe to Listowel for the Munster National. He’s a good money-spinner.”

The winner was backed this morning from 10/1 to 7/1. There were five non-runners in this race, four due to the change in going and Devil’s Elbow scoped wrong.

First reserve Cnoc Na Sioga got in and made Caim Hill work for the victory.
