Butler Family win opener at Kilbeggan
The opening race this evening at Kilbeggan, The www.kilbegganraces.com Maiden Hurdle was won by 14/1 shot Casco Bay of Michael Butler's in the hands of the trainer's son Micky Butler.
Butler raced the Fath gelding in behind the leaders, made progress approaching straight, improved to lead at last and kept on well to hold off the 7/2 favourite Fabled of Gareth Power's by 1 length.
Winning trainer Butler said afterwards, "We will probably go for handicap with him in a month's time. We have no real plans for him, he loves the firm ground and he's not big enough to go chasing. He is owned by my daughter Eileen who also led him up."
