Listenheretomejack foiled a gamble on Brides Hill (6/4 favourite from 15/8 on the show and bigger earlier) in the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Ballinrobe.
For owner/breeder Martin Walsh of The Salmon Pool in Thomastown, the Eoin Doyle-trained Listenheretomejack raced in mid-division and he was a closer sixth on the inner two out.
Ridden approaching the last where he was fourth, the Masterofthehorse gelding went second inside the final furlong, staying on well to lead in the last strides with Mike O’Connor up.
Brides Hill ‘missed’ the second last and was ultimately beaten by half a length, after leading with every chance after the last.
“That’s my fifth winner over jumps now to go with one on the Flat,” said O’Connor.
“I always thought I’d get there in time on that fella as I knew he’d battle for me.”
