Birthday-boy Carberry on the mark
Jockey Paul Carberry, unseated on his only earlier ride of the day, bounced back with a winner on his 36th birthday at Fairyhouse today, winning on West Of The Border for his retained trainer Noel Meade.
Carberry raced the son of Heron Island prominently throughout before moving to the front after three out, staying on well for an eight lengths win over Sea Stallion
Afterwards Meade reported “I always thought a bit of West Of The Border but he was held up after making his debut in March '08 and then he took forever to get fit. We had to give up training him on the all-weather and now train him on grass to improve his fitness.”
He added “he's a nice big chaser in the making for next season but we'll keep him over hurdles for this term.”
