Bellgrove recorded his second course and distance success at Tramore, as he took the Kazbar Waterford @Tramore Racecourse Handicap Chase.
Trained in Co Wexford by Pat Cloke, the eleven-year-old son of Gold Well was successful on his last visit to the seaside venue in August.
Given a break since his most recent start in December, he was sent off the outsider of the field this afternoon, going to post a 10/1 chance.
Towards the head of the affairs throughout, he held a definite advantage after three out and went clear when ridden after the next, going on to score comfortably by eight lengths. Littlestickarubarb who was sent off the 11/10 favourite, had to settle for second under Brian Hayes for Mick Winters, while Effernock Lad was a further twelve lengths back in third.
Danny Mullins guided Bellgrove to victory, and he said in the aftermath: "Pat left it up to me and it worked out well.
"He is a good jumper and he handles the track well. I had ridden against him quite a bit around here before and it's always an advantage to have track form down here. It's great to get the win on the day."
