Ballyburke impresses in bumper
Philip Rothwell began his association with leading owner JP McManus in perfect style when Ballyburke ran out an impressive winner of the bumper at Navan.
The gelding was bought by McManus recently and was the first runner for Rothwell in the famous green and gold colours.
Padraig Roche sent his mount to the front under two furlongs out and he pulled clear before the furlong pole for a commanding eight-length success over Fire Belt
"It's a great result. I felt he was unlucky at Limerick as he was left a long way behind and it was on the inside track which didn't suit him as he's a big horse," said Rothwell.
"I spoke to Mr (Frank) Berry after Limerick and he asked me if I liked him. Very kindly they bought him off me ten days ago.
"He's a good horse but I think he's a next year horse. It's up to JP and Frank what they want to do but I'd like to let him out to grass.
