Azurite came back off a break, now gelded, a different animal, to spring a 25/1 surprise in the Dundalk Stadium – Light Up Your Night (C & G) Maiden under Gary Carroll.
Once pulled out to launch his challenge, the son of Azamour devoured ground inside the last to get up and beat the favourite, Screenshot by half a length.
A real gamble on Brog Deas Nua (around 12/1 this morning into 7/2) came unstuck as that one only managed to beat two home. He couldn't pick up when ridden towards the outer in the straight.
Shane Lyons brother of successful trainer Ger disclosed: "His homework has been very good and he'll stay a mile and quarter next year and the winter will do him good.
"He was slowly away on his first two runs and we gave him a bit of time and he's been gelded.
"He was better out of the gates today and more professional.
"I'm delighted for Sean (Jones, winning owner) as he gets the bonus there (10K Racing Post bonus)." (AM & EM)
