Arbutus rallied gamely to get the better of stablemates Newfoundland and Realism in the concluding Racing Next On Saturday May 14th Maiden at Navan.
Seamie Heffernan snuck through on the rail and just had enough in reserve to pip his fellow Ballydoyle inmates in a driving finish.
The winner, who was making his racecourse debut, belied his inexperience to shade two with previous runs to their name.
Trainer Aidan O'Brien was completing a five-timer on the card.
Stable representative Chris Armstrong said: "He stays very well this horse and he liked the ground. He loved the 1m5f. He got a lovely ride from Seamus (Heffernan) who just kept picking them off.
"We'll look for a conditions race and see what sort of a mark he gets.
"It was a nice performance and it was probably a good maiden. Ryan's horse (Moore on Newfoundland) ran very well."
