Appletree is magic for Martin
Around this time every year a share of mares hit the winners enclosure that have recently been covered and Appletreemagic was another as she shrugged aside a 168 day break to defy top-weight and land a bit of a 'touch' in the Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Handicap under Padraig Beggy.
Backed from 12/1 this morning into 7/1, Appletreemagic held the late charge of Johnnys Legacy
Winning trainer Pat Martin said: "She was my first winner last season, though that was a month earlier - she was only off 47 then (off 60 here). I needed that as winners are hard to get.
"She'd been working well and two weeks ago she was covered by Approve. I hope she's in foal now."
Paul Hennessy 's second runner in the training ranks, that began in dream-like fashion with Cheers Buddy earlier, Bricks And Porter ran well to be fourth. He was struggling to get on terms when chopped for room at the business end.
