Alanza impresses in Listowel opener
Alanza sprouted wings in the final furlong of the opening fillies maiden at Listowel to make a winning debut.
John Oxx 's charge was only ninth turning into the straight in the six-furlong event but started to motor over a furlong from home.
Fran Berry got a great tune from the Aga Khan-owned filly in the closing stages to grab Independent Girl and record a cosy two-length success.
"She's a very smart filly and had been working well at home, said Berry afterwards.
"It's a tough track for a newcomer and she was very green early on. She showed a very good turn of foot. The ground was testing for her."
