It was difficult to argue with Rob James' remark "he was the class horse in the race," after he'd steered 10/11 shot Burning Ambition to success in the Remus Uomo Hunters Chase at Down Royal.
This extended two mile three furlong trip seemed to suit Pierce Power's Burning Ambition well, and after putting his stamp on the race two out he kept Cue Card's half-brother Sidetracked at bay on the run-in by a length and a half.
"He loves the ground and jumped well. He just wasn't himself the last day but he was back to himself today and he was very good," further reflected James.
"He had plenty in hand and I wasn't hard on him, I only pushed him to the line as he was idling away to the line.
"Onwards and upwards, the plans are to go to Aintree hopefully with a bit of luck."
The Stewards interviewed Mr N. Gault, rider of Lisnagreggan concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. N. Gault was in breach of Regulation 10.3 (c) in that he used his whip unnecessarily after achieving his maximum placing, and 10.3 (f) in that he used his whip with excessive force. Having considered his previous record in this regard, the Stewards suspended Mr N. Gault for 3 racedays.
