Market leaders, Drumlister (5/2fav) and Acapulco Gold were battling out the finish in the Carrickbyrne Handicap Chase, away from the second last and the result was still very much in the melting pot, when the former unseated Gareth Malone at the last
.
This left the Paul Nolan trained Acapulco Gold to come home an easy nine and a half length winner under Davy Russell at the odds of 7/2. Aces And Kings finished back in second under Keith Donoghue for William Newman at 8/1 while Stonesinmypocket was thirteen lengths back in third under Jody McGarvey for Christy Roche at 14/1.
The winning six-year-old son of Azamour, who has two hurdles wins to his name, was running in handicap company over fences for just the third time this evening, having been beaten by a length and three parts on his last outing at Stratford in June.
Head lad, Alan Dobbs, said afterwards: "Quick ground is what he needs and he was just beaten on his last start in England.
"He’ll be kept on the go now and he will step up in trip for a handicap at Galway next."
