At the twenty fourth attempt Intense Stylist came good to spring a 33/1 surprise, the 59-rated daughter of Intense Focus bossing things from early in the Listowel Track Fillies Maiden.
This isn't a win father and son, Albert and Keith Moriarty will forget in a hurry. Trainer Albert prepared the four-year-old, principally to showcase Keith's talents in the plate, at their base between Killorglin and Glenbeigh.
In this mile event the successful chestnut, blinkered and coming here off a 55-day break, made all, and she was ridden two furlongs out. She kept on well to assert inside the final furlong, for a three and a half length win over Alahida
"She likes that ground and we were waiting all year for it," said Moriarty senior.
"She likes to be out in front and we were drawn one so had to be out quick or else get boxed in.
"We might give her another run before putting put her away for the winter.
"She's entered again to run on Thursday. We'll see how she comes out of today."
The Stewards fined Anthony Mullins, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Roman Seera in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
W.M. Lordan, rider of Ice Storm trained by Edward Lynam, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount didn't handle today's going.
The Stewards requested a report from Albert Moriarty, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Intense Stylist, placed first, as compared with its recent form.
The trainer reported that this filly has run well on testing ground in the past and that being back on a heavy surface may have accounted for a return to her old form.
Having considered the report from the trainer, the Stewards noted its contents.
Thomas P.O'Connor, trainer of The Frozen Well reported to the Clerk of Scales that his charge showed signs of being in season post race.
