116/1 double up for McCullagh on Doran's Day
Niall McCullagh got Reggie Roberts' Night Glimmer home the winner of the 4.10 and in the second division of the Hen & Stag Packages at Dundalk Stadium Handicap half-an-hour later, the vastly-experienced County Carlow rider brought up a double when for another smaller yard, that of Martina Doran, he scored aboard 25/1 outsider (paid 88 Euro on the Tote) Darraghs Day
Coming here off a 248 day break, Darraghs Day, an eleven times previously tried maiden was going up markedly in trip in this mile and a half event and he arrived from off the pace to lead a furlong out, keeping on well to beat Sparring Partner (6s this morning into 4s) by a length and a half. The well-backed favourite Casbah Rock (11/2 into 7/2) finished four and a half lengths back in third.
Doran, who has the impressive Railway Yard Gallops at Duncormick, County Wexford open to the equine community, said: "That was unexpected though he's been in good form at home. He hadn't run since August and the step-up in trip definitely worked.
"He enjoyed every bit of the mile and a half. I was in two minds to run him here or over hurdles. He could still go hurdling."
