100/1 shot Awkwafina too strong for odds-on shot in Limerick opener

There was a 125/1 scorer to open the St Stephen’s Day cards at Wetherby and at 100/1 Awkwafina popped up in the Geary's Garage Kilmeedy 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle, the curtain-raiser in Limerick.
The successful daughter of Kyllachy was both beginning over flights, and starting off for new connections, owner Liam Cleary, the jockeys valet, and trainer Sam Curling.
Phillip Enright did the steering on the ex-Jack Davison runner and she got the better of the odds-on favourite Palm Beach by a neck.
"I was talking to Sam this morning and he said she had only done one bit of work away from grass and she went well and he said she jumped well. He thought she'd handle the ground and she did and she galloped to the line strong,” said Enright.
"She will improve generally from racing."
