Il Fenomeno won a rousing finale to the opener at Punchestown, the Buy Your 2012 Annual Badge Maiden Hurdle, to continue the fantastic run of success currently being enjoyed by the Noel Meade yard. As was the case with yesterday's winner for Tu Va, Sword Of Destiny, Davy Russell was again in the plate in the silks of Gigginstown House Stud. Thu 13th Oct
After race at Punchestown Tue, 23rd Apr, 2013 (1st) 
I thought he'd win the County Hurdle and couldn't believe when he stopped so quickly. I'd suppose he keeps a bit to himself and even today when he got to the front he thought he'd done enough. Eddie (O'Leary) suggested that we make the running with him but then we thought that they might go a bit quick. I said to Paul to do whatever he wanted. I was very disappointed with Paul that day in the Boylesports. I think he would have won there if he'd took his time on him (finished fifth that day at Leopardstown in January behind Abbey Lane). His two runs since though were moderate, at Cheltenham and Fairyhouse. It's nice to come here and get the win with him. He has loads of ability . he's a Group 3 winner on the flat.

It's not ideal running two in a race as one gets beat. I didn't think they would finish first and second. If anything I thought it might be the other way around. The winner is a tough horse and Davy (Russell) said he found plenty when he asked him. He will be a contender wherever he goes now and he might go for the Royal Bond. We will go a different route with Dylan Ross. I know he is a good horse and I think he will get further.
