Moon provides Smith with first juvenile success
It was nice that he stepped up on his first run,. Colin said that just in the last half furlong he was tiring, it was very testing. He's a really nice horse and was showing plenty at home. He's been working well with the likes of Warnaq and One Cool Poet. He did what we expected the first day, the draw was the only doubt then, and we were delighted with him. He has plenty of potential. Colin mentioned the Birdcatcher but it might be a bit soon. We'll see how he is but if we don't get another run into him this season it's not the end of the world. Who knows I mightn't have him still if I get him sold with a bit of luck. That's my first two-year-old winner and it's great to get it.
Captain makes the breakthrough under Slattery
It was great that he won. He went up a few pounds for being second at the Curragh earlier in the year and it's taken him a while to get back down,. He always showed plenty of speed and I'm delighted he's got his head in front. My wife (Orla) will be delighted and her friend Katrina Buckley, they own him. I did say I'd win a two-year-old race with him so I'm glad he has now. We'll see what the handicapper does but he's in the sales at Goffs and that could be his next assignment.
Keane doubles-up on Strong Johnson
We're delighted with that. We thought he had improved a nice bit from Down Royal, he's just a big raw backward horse,. We felt he had improved sufficiently enough to win this. I know the other horse (Son And Sannie) was fancied, and had a good run in the Curragh, but this lad is smart enough. Hopefully he'll be able to compete in some of the better handicaps next year. Colin thinks he'll still improve more and hopefully we'll have a good bit of fun with him. His full-sister runs in the next and hopefully we can do the double, we're half way there!. Colin seems to think he'd handle Dundalk so we'll have a look at the calendar. He's had a very easy year.
Doonard Prince bounces back to form
It's great for a ten-year-old that had kind of went wrong on us during the summer and had fallen back down to this mark,. It was the same mark he had fell down to two years ago when he won two at the Curragh. He climbed back up again then. Mikey gave him a peach of a ride. I'm sure he's going to ride loads to winners because he was real cool on him, exactly to instructions. He ran better than his finishing position last time, only beaten four lengths on good to firm. If you look back all his form is on soft ground and he got it today. There is a race here again in two weeks time and if we can just keep the momentum up he could climb again like those sprinters do. They get down to a level and then go again. It's great to have him and great for John Bowden. He's with me from the start. Most fellas when a sprinter like him gets to ten years of age they start losing faith. He was the first winner John ever had and he won five for him. He hung in there all summer long even at some stages when we were scratching our heads and wondering if he was going to come back to himself. It's great to get it and it'll keep the show on the road.
Aleef notches-up his third win of the season
He's been a great addition for us. That's three he's won and he's been placed a good few times,. He did it well there and Shane said he enjoyed the slower ground. He's won on fast ground and also has form in England on the all-weather. He's Martin Hanley's first horse so it's great.
Third time lucky for 'smart' Degraves
He did it nicely. The form of his last run worked out really well so he was probably entitled to do that but I think he's a smart horse,. He had no problem with the ground, he seemed fine on it and galloped through it well. I think he'll get a bit further but he's not slow. He quickens well, travelled really smooth, so I think a mile is probably fine for him at the minute.
Jumellea provides Browne McMonagle with landmark success
Claws gets his turn in Navan finale
He did it well. He had an outside draw (in 24), which wasn't ideal, and Billy gave him a lovely ride,. He sat in and let him find his feet. He came there on the bridle. I was watching the other horse Watchman and he seemed to come off the bridle just around the corner. Then I saw the other horse, I was watching him then up the straight as I just knew he had come on to it. Billy said he got a lovely run up the inside, picked up again and away he went. To be fair to Watchman he stayed on well to finish third, the two of them ran well. The winner has been knocking on the door. He's entered in the sales, he wants a good cut in the ground and he wants a distance so he'd be an ideal horse to go hurdling. We'll see what else there is coming up. I think there is maybe only one other race he's eligible for and that might be after the sales. We'll see what happens but at least he's won.
