Foley's Flare justifies strong market support
That's the first time he's run like his work has been,. His work has always been very good. It looked like a tricky maiden and we weren't coming confident that he'd win it, we were saying that he'd surely be in the shake up. It's surprising that he hasn't won by now but it's probably our own fault in one way as we ran him over the wrong trip in Punchestown, he just didn't see it out. He was second over seven here last season but dropping him back was probably the key to him, six seems to be his trip. He was rated 72 and we'll see what he gets now, we'd have no problem stepping him up in class regardless. Whether he's sold or not, we'll see, if not I'd love to hold on to him. Even if he got a few pounds I think he'd win off that. I think getting a bit of black-type should be no problem to him. He loved that ground today so he has the whole summer ahead of him. We didn't make a plan, we just wanted to get today out of the way and see what happens then. He's a real relaxed horse. Luke was saying in the stalls he was trying to get him back out and he just stood there. He's like that at home as well, which is a big help. With him being four he's a strong horse so we didn't mind giving away the weight today. He's only had a few runs and should keep improving. He's a lovely horse.
Belle now Royal Ascot bound after landing gamble on debut
We bought her at the breeze-ups off Con Marnane a few weeks ago, he said she was very fast and she is. She'll be Ascot bound now,. We worked her with a couple of good fast sprinters we have and she didn't disappoint us. She had been to the Curragh a couple of times. She's lightening out of the gates, very professional, she's a very fast filly. She stayed at it well and she's only going to improve. She's one of the fastest two-year-olds I've ever had. We'll definitely chance Ascot and she'll go to the Queen Mary. She looks cheap now, there are times you buy these at 70,000 pounds and they are dear. At the breeze-ups you can be lucky and unlucky. We do a lot of research at them. She's a real two-year-old and that's why we bought her, because we wanted something for the likes of Ascot. You don't buy big strapping horses when you are buying a two-year-old for Ascot, they are sharp types. That's what a lot of the breeze-up sales are about, if you want to race quickly. We have another one or two at home and they are nice. A bunch of them worked the other day and they aren't too bad.
Foley 'very good' on Real Bad
We came to the conclusion after the last day that she didn't see out the six in Dundalk,. We said we'd go five wherever we go next. We waited for here and she's even strengthened up a lot since her last run. She's getting stronger all the time and she was definitely a little better today. I thought Shane was very good on her, he gave her a lovely ride. She definitely needs good ground. There is another three-year-old only sprint in the Curragh on June 7th. She might go there next.
O'Connor guides Nelson to surprise win
He had a nice winter campaign, Katelyn Bailey was gaining experience on him and he was kept fit over the winter. We gave him a break and freshened him up,. I was very encouraged by his run at Gowran the last day. Donagh felt that seven is his trip, somewhere like here with a straight track and riding him handy from a nice draw. We were quite pleased when we saw this race. Unfortunately we couldn't go to Wetherby a couple of days ago because of travel problems but it worked out grand in the end. He's a fine strong horse, he was favourite once upon a time for the Coventry, for Aidan O'Brien. He just hasn't lived up to his name, he's not as tough as Admiral Nelson himself. He's a grand horse and we sweetened him up. It's great that he's got a win. He owed me that as he gave me a nasty kick putting him through stalls on Saturday morning. I'll forgive him for that now. It's great for Jonny Hayes, he's with me a good while now and has had a good few winners. He'll get a good kick out of that.
Snow comes from last to first under Coen
It's great to give the syndicate their first winner,. It was set up by the former Galway manager, Anthony Cunningham. He put it together with GAA referee Brian Gavin. They decided to set up their own racing syndicate and this is a great start for them with their first horse on just her second run for them. They hope to expand and have another one in the pipeline. Hopefully this filly can give them a bit of craic for the summer. The syndicate has a GAA slant and the members are spread across the country.
Wind prevails as Time disappoints
We were disappointed with the favourite obviously but delighted with this horse,. He's a lovely kind honest horse and showed it there. The second horse headed him but he battled back and showed a really good attitude. We'll go easy with him and see how he comes out of the race. We'll probably look for a nice handicap with him in a month or six weeks. He set a fair pace and there was no hiding places for anyone.
