Caer an 'early bird' in Sligo
I remember winning a race in Leopardstown with a horse about 40 years ago and Major Tyrell was the starter and he started five minutes early. I hadn't had a winner for a few months and lost the race, as it was null and void. She was going well in Galway when she fell. She was a bit keen there and it wasn't the plan to make the running but she just grabbed a hold of it. I'd say if she got a lead she might be a little better but she kept at it well. She's a nice mare.
Ciankyle holds on to win in Sligo again
He's been a good old servant to us. I thought the ground might be gone for him there, as he likes top of the ground really. He handled it well and Mark said it's not that bad. We have him entered in a chase at Killarney on Friday and he could possibly go there if he's okay. He's just a nice little handicapper and we'll keep him going while he's going well.
Unexpected Depth scoots home for O'Keefe
We're delighted with that because he's a horse that has taken us a while to get him where he is today,. He was a very highly strung type of horse. The last day in Ballinrobe a horse fell beside him at the first and I think both the jockey and the horse got a fright and it didn't help him. He has settled there now and has a better way of travelling, he doesn't take as much out of himself. In fairness this evening's race probably wasn't as good a race as the one in Ballinrobe. The ground was probably okay for him. We'll keep him going for a while and might look for a novice somewhere.
Walking On Glass brings up Fivers & Tenners payday
He's a grand little horse and he won well. Tramore didn't seem to take anything out of him and I'm delighted with that. We'll wait and see what the handicapper does but the Tote has those races for syndicate horses and there is one in Bellewstown with a good pot so we might aim him for there. We'll keep him going anyway, he's a grand little fun horse. He could probably go back on the Flat as he ran well in Galway from a bad draw. He's tough and hardy, he's small but at least he tries.
Adimelo lands feature for McNiff
He ran very well here the last day and the extra bit of distance probably helped tonight. He ran well in Galway in a fierce competitive race and on paper his last run would have been nearly good enough to win. The bit of rain probably helped with his age. He might go back for a chase now.
Double for McNiff on bittersweet evening
If he had of jumped four out or three out here the last day, he would have won, and if the eventual second had kept any way straight he'd have won, so he was probably a very unlucky loser here the last day. I thought the young lad was brilliant on him. He's a horse that if he doesn't find a rhythm he's no use. He's improving away all the time. He's only ran here twice before, he won the first day and as I said he was an unlucky enough loser the last day. The slower ground and the bit of extra trip left room for blundering one or two. He'll go for the three-mile handicap in Listowel if he gets in. He goes on bad ground. He's very small and a light weight would be ideal.
Briar Hill's sister Jazzaway makes perfect start
She's very well bred. We leased her off Burgage Stud, they bred Briar Hill and she's a sister to him,. She's a bit like him, neither of them are very flashy at home. On the racetrack they are a different kettle of fish. I don't ever remember having to go a full lap after pulling up on him!. Three of us ended up going the whole way around. We probably went very slow and it turned into a sprint. I thought between the three and the two we were going to be beaten but the uphill finish suited her and I'd say stamina is her forte. There is that mares' Listed bumper at Gowran in October and we'd have to look at that. The boys have her leased - they have Getaway Gorgeous as well so they've had a great week. She's not big. The family jump well though and we've had smaller jumpers.
