Yerwan makes impressive winning debut for Foley
We like her a lot and she ran like she works. She works like a very, very good filly. She’s a half-sister of Yermanthere who was rated 92 and this is probably a better filly than him. She’s a very straight forward filly, very sound and easy to train. She’s definitely Listed class and the best I’ve had. She was very mature and professional but should improve a lot from this. She is not ground dependant either. Luke thinks she would have no bother stepping up to a mile but the gears she shows I would keep her at seven. She has options.
Gilligan rides first winner on Plunkett
He gave him a great ride and I’d say that’s the way he wants to be ridden as he does a bit too much when he gets there. He didn’t have a great preparation for the Curragh the last day as he missed a lot of time with a foot. I’d say he just blew up in the Curragh. We’d like to go to Galway and he may have to run again to get into the good race. I won’t run him too much more as he doesn’t take a lot of racing. I think he prefers seven, he’s not slow, especially around Galway.
Dr Zempf leads home Lyons 1-2 in Ballycorus Stakes
Lee continues fine run with win on Helpmeout
I’m delighted for Jimmy and Ciara (Murphy). He bought the mare, Joyce Compton, that I trained to win and this is the first foal out of her. I think he’s going to retain this filly as she’s big and scopey. She’s only filling into her frame and whatever she does this year she might improve a bit next year. Billy is riding great and gave her a lovely confident ride. He gave her all the time in the world and a nice clear run up the straight. She was a weak filly last year but is strengthening up the whole time.
Giladah wins for Weld on handicap debut
She’s a very well-bred filly. I trained the dam (Tarfasha) who was second in the Epsom Oaks and won the Blandford. I also trained the first two out of the dam who were both Stakes winners. She showed a good attitude as she had to come through a gap and then fight hard to win. I think she is a filly that can progress.
Complete Fiction a 28/1 winner for Cleary
Triona (Burbage, owner) led the horse up herself. She comes into the yard every day and does everything with him. He’s promised so much on the gallops at home but never delivered. We always knew there was a race in him if we could get his head right. He ran ok in Dundalk and we gave him a break. He’s come back great and his attitude has been different. Finally we have got a tune out of him. He got cut out of it before the straight and dropped back. I thought that was the end of that. Rory found a few gaps, got him wide and he flew home.
