Grace's patience with De Bennette bears fruit
She gave more problems! She had a tumour on her ovary two years ago and got that out. The tumour was bigger than a football and they had never seen the like of it before. They were adamant to take our time and that it would take over 12 months,. I wanted to breed from her and when we went about getting her in foal, she didn't come in season and that's how she is back in training this year. She is a full sister to De Benno so a win on the card is a big help. She is identical to De Benno as she wants soft ground. She is well handicapped over fences and hopefully will win one of them.
Sad conclusion but Tap Tap wins as expected in Clonmel feature
It was unfortunate what happened the other horse (Insult, died following a suspected heart attack) but these things happen,. When it gets heavy here it can get bad and Paul definitely said the ground was too soft for him. Other than than he seemed to have the measure of the other horse and he is entered in a couple of those big handicap hurdles. He jumps quick and they went slow on that ground which wasn't ideal for him but he has got his head in front twice now and it will give him confidence and we'll hope to build on it.
What a start from Lord as Mullins and Townend double up
He is a beautiful horse and we've always liked him since he came. Jeremy Maxwell found him in France for WIllie and to do anything with he is a gorgeous horse,. We think he is not too bad and will build on that. He is in the two novice hurdles at the Dublin festival but I'd imagine it would come too soon. I'd imagine we'll look for something between now and Cheltenham and we like him anyway and he could be an Albert Bartlett type of horse. Paul said he went through the ground very easily and has a very relaxed way of going and that helps him as well. Paul said he's going to be some chaser. Willie's travelling head man, Ben Delmar, from Caragh, normally goes racing but couldn't be here today as his father Ned passed away yesterday morning.
The winners just keep on flowing for McKiernan and Browne
Trumps Ace on the up and goes back to back at Clonmel
It is great to follow her win up and she did similar to the last day. It was a better class race today and she is improving. Earlier in her career I thought she wanted further but she appears to be plenty quick enough for that and Ryan (Treacy) seemed to think 2m2f is her trip,. Chasing is her game, she was a bit slow to jump over hurdles and is from a real chasing family. She has a great attitude and we'll look for something similar again next.
Some Man lives up to Christie's billing and easily justifies favouritism
If it had been on normal ground, I thought he'd have done that, but seeing good horses strung out today, I was very worried about it. He was very very keen when we got him and I knew if he didn't relax on that ground today, he was going to be gone in a couple of hundred yards when you'd ask for him. Rob said he relaxed and got into a lovely rhythm and for me personally, he is as good as I've had and is a proper horse. He had lots of problems when I bought him at a dispersal sale for GBP5,500 last May. He is not a slow horse either and I'll qualify him for Cheltenham. He has to be placed in another hunter chase or win an Open Point to Point so I'll go the easiest possible route I can take.
