Nile answers questions in maiden hurdle
I thought the ground would have caught him out a bit but he travelled well. On his previous runs I felt he would be there or thereabouts. He’ll probably go for a winners-of-one and stay hurdling this season. Chasing ultimately is what we will be aiming at.
Knockraha reigns on handicap debut
He showed us glimpses of ability in bumpers but he’s had problems and a big thank you to the vet Ger Kelly. His form tailed off and he’s had his problems but he’s on the way back. You couldn’t be confident but we were just hopeful. I think anything that wins today has done well as it’s fairly testing. Hopefully he’s alright in the morning and we’ll see where we go.
Clarcam adds to tally at Clonmel
I’m a bit surprised as he hates the ground and he’s had three quick runs. It’s a credit to the horse and he is a dual Grade 1 winner. He was tough and I don’t think anything went to plan but he’s won another €11,000. He’s in again on Sunday (in the Tied Cottage) at Punchestown but he won’t run. He’s a tough little horse and I’m delighted to see him win.
Samanntom makes all in the mud
He jumps a lot better when he’s making the running, and it was an inferior race to the one he ran in last Sunday. He likes that ground, and he won two point-to-points in that kind of ground. He jumps well out of it which some horses find hard. My son says he’s a three miler. In very dry conditions maybe he is but he has enough gears for two (miles). Two one or two miles and two (furlongs) is probably his perfect trip.
Island proves the Master in hunter chase
He’s after throwing away three races, and even the last day in a point-to-point he put in a slow jump at the last. He’d a bit of a leg problem last year but he came back. He handled the ground better than I thought he would but Turtle Island’s normally do. He will probably run in a handicap later in the year. The cheek-pieces helped him.
