Kennedy back amongst the winners on Chesterville
Slattery now two from two with Tynan's mare
Henry (de Bromhead) had all the ground work done with her and I got her but she doesn't show a lot at home,. The only good bit of work she has done is when I brought her to the Curragh but she won easy at Kilbeggan and seemed to win easy again there. I was running her back a week too soon but this race really fitted in. She'll stay three miles and we'll hopefully nick a bit of black-type. She is a grand honest mare and will continue on for the summer. I have seven jumpers to run although a few of the point-to-pointers came in recently. I find the flat easier and there is a worldwide market for horses whereas you're either in the clique or not with the jumping market. Ronan has five horses with me and that's his fifth winner with me - he do be complaining about the bill but that'll keep him happy!
Landers completes Limerick double
I was worried a little about the ground but Cathal Landers walked the ground yesterday and said Val (O'Connell, Clerk of the Course) was doing a very good job on it and it was in great nick. In fairness Cathal knows the horse for a long time and has done a lot of work with the horse, a lot of schooling, and deserves all the credit.
Fitzgerald keeps his great run going on Queally's mare
I threw her out in the field for two weeks after Kilbeggan (second to Ruaille Buaille in early June) and pulled her in three weeks ago and she is only riding out a couple of weeks. She goes and wins and that's her fourth win. She was only beaten a length in the Graded mares' novice hurdle at Down Royal last November and that race would be her main target running into the winter and we'll go from there. I know Shane well from riding in point-to-points, he is a good rider, has ridden a few winners for me and will be busy during Galway.
'Positive attitude' helps Profound gain first win
he came back from a break at Tramore when he ran a cracker finishing fourth. We came here on good ground and with a positive attitude. He deserved that win.
First treble for Landers as Gendarme lays down the law
It is great to get a local winner and the syndicate are from the Castlemahon and Newcastlewest area. They got off the mark the last day in Tramore and that form has been franked here all day with the second (Royal Recital) and fifth (Profound) winning. He enjoys that ground and Cathal gave him a great ride. That's his first treble today and he comes in a couple of mornings a week.
Forgetthesurprise making hay while the sun shines
She got a great ride and Aine gets on great with her. She loves quick ground and is a waste of time on soft. It's amazing, you'd see her cantering at home and you'd say she wants soft ground but I had to learn the hard way. She might jump a fence eventually.
Family success for the Gleesons as Kiely's filly wins bumper
I have nothing to do with his riding, it is down to John (Kiely) who is the teacher and is everything. John has just turned 17, is in Transition Year and goes back to school in September. This is a special evening. The filly is very well-bred and Brian was lucky to buy her and has a lovely broodmare now. Her dam Sesenta won the Ebor and it is hard to beat good pedigrees. John has been with us riding for five or six years since he was riding ponies.
