Whacker takes Tramore feature under 'masterful' Blackmore ride
Brehon Star wins on chasing debut at Tramore
We only got him Monday morning, so we can't take any of the credit for it really, Shane Crawley has done all the work with him. Shane was kind of getting tired bringing him around the country and he wasn't running well. We knew he jumped well and that's all he did this week, he led the breakers schooling. He jumped poles, ditches, fences and it just seems to have sweetened him up. He likes jumps and, while it wasn't a great race, he battled hard after making that mistake at the second last. He showed a bit of heart. I think jumping is key to him, he does enjoy it. . Keith (Donoghue) couldn't do the weight and, when we were thinking about jockeys, we said either Danny (Mullins) or Darragh. We thought they would suit him as they get horses travelling and he seemed to be falling asleep during his races. . The claiming hurdle at Bellewstown was the plan and I'd say the boys (Pipe Down Syndicate) will still sell him. I'd say he would be a fun horse in England.
Blackmore and de Bromhead double up with Gentle And Kind
Friends now two from two for Mullins
They were going so fast over the first few hurdles and she wasn't used to that pace. The second horse had a lot more experience and Mikey O'Sullivan (on Hashtag Pretender) was going to test our one for experience and he did. . Paul got her warmed into it and I was very happy with her in the end. The second horse has a good pedigree by Great Pretender and had nice form in France. You wouldn't expect a maiden hurdle at Tramore to be that hot. . She will go novice hurdling and hopefully she will improve as the autumn comes in. We will look at mares' novice hurdles that are coming up.
Cullinan & Fahey on the mark with Boskill
Prince Of Air another for Rothwell
We were hoping for a good run, but he had been pretty disappointing to be honest. He had a good run here last year when he was third. He was a bit disappointing in Kilbeggan and then had an okay run in Ballinrobe. Calling a spade a spade, I'd say today wasn't the strongest race in the world and we were lucky it divided. . We might go over fences with him now, run him in a chase off his hurdle mark and see would he be any better. He won today, but made hard work of it. Gavin Kinch is with me for 20 years I'd say, nearly since I started. He has been a lucky owner and while this lad got an injury and was out of action for a while, it's great that we've been able to bring him back and win with him. Gavin has been super supportive for years and I'm delighted to have another winner for him. He is from Craanford near Gorey and his local GAA club won a final last night, so I'd say he will celebrate with them this evening. We had three handicap runners today and they finished first, second and third. The horses are running really well, and I'd love to turn a few more of the placed ones into winners, but they are going good.
Brickley living the dream with first win on Grannys Yaris
I grew up with horses and ponies and racing is all I wanted to do. I've no family background in racing but my sister Shelley rides too and hopefully I can kick on now. That was only my third ride. We were worried about Willie's one (Mullins, Nt Field Minnesota). We got her wind done and it has turned her form around. She was well-beaten on her only run last year and she was weak then too. . Her owner Charles (Flattery) is a breeder and she'll be for the breeding sheds. Charles is just down the road from me in Summerhill. . I'd say she'll go jumping now, as she jumps well. Finbarr comes into me in the evenings, and he is a good kid.
