Callaghan makes hay with Pike
O'Connells Pike did it nicely and the two miles suited better today, as did the ground drying out a bit. The drier the ground is, the better it is for him and he keeps improving with every run. Hurdling will be his forte as he wasn't jumping well enough when he was chasing.
Mourad floors Mikael in Boyne Hurdle
I'm disappointed with Mikael D'Haguenet - you'd have to say that. I'll have to think of plans now for him. On ratings there wasn't much between the two of them but the other fellow (Mourad) just found his form this year for the first time.
Maller too tough for Beef
Welcome winner for Fenton
after the horse jammed on at the first hurdle, On My Own then didn't settle. However Rob left him go on and enjoy himself out in front and gave him a breather and kicked again on in the straight.
Donnas Palm takes Flyingbolt Chase
I couldn't believe the price he was and told the lads to back him. Donnas Palm had been running in very good company but is a little bit of a lad and the blinkers helped. The last day at Leopardstown he looked like he had a chance turning in but the next thing he was gone! He probably wants further than two miles and he needed every inch of it there. It was a race he had a chance of winning on ratings and he jumped well. I don't know where I'll go with him now, he won't be going to Cheltenham or anything like that. He is rated high enough but wouldn't be good enough for the Powers Gold Cup either - we'll look for something a grade below that and he'll get 2m4f.
Ten Up shock leaves punters with that blank feeling!
we hoped in a small field, we would pop around and get our entry money back! He was meant to run in a 0-109 handicap at Fairyhouse but they did away with the chases and he came here with an eye to running in a handicap at the next meeting!. I cant'believe it! He hadn't run since December 1 and we just wanted to get a run into him.
Sizing takes bumper gold
that was great, we have always liked him and we thought his first run was very good , but he just got a bit tired on the turn-in at Punchestown. We were hoping he would improve but he is a big scopey chaser so we backed off him after his debut and brought him back. I'm delighted he got a great ride from Davey - he is super for his 5lbs claim and any time we fancy one he does the job. The sensible option is to put Sizing Gold out in a field now but we'll see.
