Cromwell's filly turns over odds-on favourite
McAuley thrilled as fragile Hathiq wins a thriller
If I started to tell you all his problems it would take up a whole page. He's been a nightmare and people have told me to retire him but he's not happy unless he's riding out. It's been a long way back and he's improved so much, even from Bellewstown. That was a warning shot, he just didn't handle the track at all there. He was always going to be dangerous, as he's well handicapped, if he could stand up to it. The poor horse is on the vet's list every day he comes. I'm delighted to get him back. Of all the winners we've had winning with him definitely ranks up there. I definitely didn't think we were up and I would have been delighted with second as it's been such a long road back with him. Touch wood, it all worked out. He'll be better with any type of ease in the ground and we genuinely didn't decide to run until 11.30 today. We've never been more undecided about running. I told Luke if he didn't handle the ground to ease him down and make sure he comes back safe.
Unity proves very tough to secure follow up win
He was very brave today, tried very hard,. I told Leigh to bounce out and make every post a winning one. He skipped along and you could see him putting his old ears back in the last 100 yards. He tried his heart out. He had 8-6 there and Leigh is a good, strong rider. Leigh and Gary Halpin suit him as they are strong riders but unfortunately Gary couldn't do the weight today and Leigh was a good deputy. He'll go for the Joe McGrath (at the Curragh on September 26th). The handicapper will have his way with him again but I better not say too much as I gave out about him a couple of times!
Speedacus edges verdict in nursery thriller
We're delighted with that, we thought he was due it,. We thought he warranted huge respect on his maiden run here behind Geocentric but he was easy to back. He needs quick ground and Declan was even complaining a bit today that the ground was over-watered. It's very hard to get good to firm ground in this country. I'd imagine he'll go for the listed race over five in Dundalk next month. We said he had to win here today to warrant going for that. That's a nice pot today. He has loads of pace and we were delighted to see the way he battled to the line there. We thought he was going to get swallowed but he didn't.
Jazzelle gets Timmons off the mark as a trainer
That's my first winner and it's great to get it. We had a few knocking on the door and it's nice to get one over the line. I just got my licence this summer and I'm based in Batterstown in County Meath. Myself and my partner, Joanne Lavery, started off pin-hooking foals, unsuccessfully!. We weren't getting what we wanted for horses so the next thing is to put the colours on. I have a restricted licence. The two horses that ran here (Chacha Dancer was 5th) ran a few weeks ago in both divisions of a nice furlong race at Leopardstown and I was hoping this race would divide to give them both a chance.
Front-running Dollar Value blitzes rivals
I was very cagey about running him again after running him so quick again last night. The first thing Colin (Keane) said last night, before he got off him, was 'if that lad is all right in the morning run him again'. That swung it for me. Watching the race today I thought he had gone too hard as he went some gallop down the back but he seems to be in the form of his life at the minute. He loves good ground and this track probably suits a lad like him as he can get his breather, fill his lungs and away again. He's a right old horse and a great horse to have. He's always promised a lot at home and we always thought he was better than what he had been doing. The reason I didn't go back chasing with him is that he took a tumble in Thurles and I was afraid it might have left a bit of a scar on him. The next day he ran here he planted himself at the start. When he's doing everything right at this game and at hurdling I might just put it on the long finger for the time being. He does jump well and was just unfortunate that day to take a tumble.
