Lyons has Goffs Million in mind
he's a typical Dandy Man who we've had success with in the past first time out. We've always liked him but he has to back it up before I get high about him. I wanted to start him over six - he was to start a few weeks ago but had a dirty nose and that's why we waited. If he hadn't run today he was going to go straight into a seven-furlong race. He was shouting and roaring before the race and for one of mine he was very green. He did it well, on pure raw ability. we'll see how he comes out of it but ultimately he was bought for the Goffs Million and we'll work back from there. He's a gorgeous horse, his brother (Navagio) won last night and he's a gorgeous looking horse as well so obviously the mare knows how to throw them. We're happy to have him.
Blackbeard routs rivals in Marble Hill
we weren't exactly sure that he would get six, Ryan thought the last day that he would and obviously he got it very well. He relaxed very well and quickened very well, that's what you'd really love about him. No Nay Never is usually an influence for speed, which is good, but some of them don't get beyond sprinting distances. Looking at this horse there is every chance that he could. The first day he was very green in Dundalk and then he just won here the next day on his first run on grass and obviously learned a lot from that and came forward. we thought he'd be either a Norfolk or Coventry horse and he can go either way I think, but you'd have to say he's a Coventry type. We ran him today to see and you couldn't say he didn't pass that test.
Greenlands glory for Brad The Brief
two weeks ago he ran for the first time for us at Haydock on real wet ground and beat Glen Shiel going away and he's beaten him further today so he's come on again. He was drawn out in two but William (Buick) has jumped great and tacked across the best he could. He's really lengthened away when the other horse has come to him. He's knuckled down and they've pulled clear of the third horse, who is a multiple Group 1 winner so it's a pretty good performance. Glen Shiel is fourth, who is a Group 1 winner as well. touch wood, if he carries on improving like he appears to be since we've took charge of him then there could be a big one in him, not that this isn't big,. It's fair to say he's better with a bit of cut in the ground and if we do get a wet Saturday in Ascot he could quite easily turn up for the Jubilee.
Appleby completes 2,000 Guineas treble
I'm delighted for the whole team, delighted for Godolphin and Sheikh Mohammed. To do what's been done over the last month is a huge achievement, more importantly for the team at home and for his Highness. It's a huge achievement for everybody and I'm delighted to be part of it. Coming into today as calm and collected as you try to be, I knew what we were trying to achieve. Firstly trying to win a Guineas but, dare I say, trying to make history. That's what this horse has done for the whole team today. It was more pressure than sometimes I'm used to. I was delighted the rain didn't come, for a big horse and a horse with his action I'm always more confident when he's on a sounder surface. I wasn't going to give an excuse coming into today that the slower side of good would be a negative, I'm a believer that good horses can get through it, but I'm delighted it's raining now and not before the race. I was confident in William as he knows him so well and has rode him all of his racing career and plenty at home. He knows what this horse can do. The thought process before the race was to try and get out and get a box seat but once it wasn't there I could see what William was doing. It was one of those nice races to watch. I knew once he angled him out, he wouldn't falter.
Raise You wins on seasonal reappearance
the plan was to come here and get a nice start to the season. I thought Shane gave him a lovely confident ride today and I'm delighted to get a stakes win under his belt. Settling and going up in trip has probably been the making of him over his past couple of runs. He's an enthusiastic worker at home and I was slow enough to go up in trip with him as he works with plenty of pace. I hoped he'd achieve more by now but maybe the best is yet to come and since we've made the step up in trip and ridden him patiently, he has really come good.
Murtagh's Mashhoor set for 'another big day out'
he ran very well in Cork on his first run and he had a very good draw today, and was given a very good ride by Shane. There wasn't much between our two at home but this lad probably had a better preparation. He's mentally immature but is toughening up now and being by Kingman I'd say he has loads of class.
Slatterys on the mark with Fiach McHugh
he's a smart horse and it's nice to have him. We gelded him in February as he was acting the brat and it turned him inside out. He won his maiden in Dundalk and the filly he beat there (Honey Girl) was third in a Group 3. He was second to Ivy League then when he ran too free over a mile and that's why we dropped back to seven. We settled out the back today and I think he'll get a mile ridden like that. We might give him an entry in the Britannia Stakes at Ascot.
Murtagh completes Curragh double
I fancied him (Chicago Bear) today and thought his draw (in 26) wasn't much of an inconvenience because they were coming up the middle all day. He ran very well the last day for Jamie (Powell). A stiff mile is probably a good trip for him and he could win again as he's just starting to get the hang of it now and our horses seem to be improving from each run. Hopefully there is a bit more improvement in him. Sometimes you could question him a bit but today he got his head down and Ben was brilliant on him.
