Promising newcomer wins Gowran's opener at 100/1
we had no great expectations coming here with his lack of experience but he looks a nice horse. He never ran in a schooling hurdle so probably has a bright future. Most of the others had either run on the Flat or over hurdles and it came easy enough to him and won well in the end. We might look at Punchestown now and see how that goes.
Red Mills winner Lantry Lady added to Cheltenham list
she’s entered in the Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham and we’d love to go. It’s a step up in trip but all she does is stay. I’d say she definitely wants a good ease in the ground so we would be cautious of that but the guys would love to go to Cheltenham and I think she is entitled to go. She’s obviously a really nice mare and I’m delighted for the Marigas (owners) who are great supporters of ours. She was impressive winning her maiden hurdle here last year and then we put her away as she was a bit immature. She’s had a couple of niggles so it’s taken us a while to get her going again and I was concerned about fitness and it was only her second run. She’s confirmed what she did in her maiden hurdle and has stepped forward again. She’s a lovely mare to go breeding with in years to come.
Attritional hurdle provides an easy win from Alpesh Amin
they all just went too quick and stopped, it was madness what they did. I jumped the last hurdle the same speed as I jumped the first hurdle. He’s won on that ground before but he was beaten the last day in Limerick and has found his mark. I don’t even know if he was the best horse in the race but I just took my time and over half the field pulled up. I was lucky the way the cards played out and the gallop they went. we’ll have a look at the Full Circle Series Final in Punchestown which is a great initiative. The ground might be too quick but we’ll see what happens.
Willie Mullins records poignant Red Mills Chase win
Kennedy maintains 14-winner lead over Townend
he probably ran to the same rating as the last day, with the third-placed horse (Spanish Harlem). He’s not a bad horse on his day and could go for something in Cheltenham like the Plate. He’s not easy to train but he has an engine and won a good race over hurdles here in the past.
Local winner for Hanlon in Careys Cottage Cup
you can never get the ground heavy enough for him and that was a big bonus today. It’s great to have a winner here on a big day at my local track. We ran him over 2m1f the last day which was too short and that’s his trip — 2m4f. When I saw the rain coming this week I was thrilled. He does the job for us each year, I don’t want the rain to stop for him but for the rest of the horses at home I want the rain to stop, so we can’t have it every way!
Voler La Vedette's foal wins Ronan Lawlor bumper for Mullins
Flashaway has a super pedigree and Nelius (O'Keeffe, owner) sent her up to us in great fettle. She was tough and hardy and I wouldn’t be surprised if she was better on better ground. I’d imagine we might be looking at some of those black type bumpers at the end of the season. it means a lot to win Ronan’s race.
