'Monthly' Medal gains deserved first success
he's been a bit disappointing in his last few runs but I think we've probably been making too much use of him in his races. You saw today how he stopped when he got there and drifted so I'd say it suits him to come from behind. I probably should have corrected him earlier but he won anyway.
Brown trains her first Irish winner
we came up here confident tonight and it's paid off. She's been unlucky on her last couple of runs; at Wolverhampton last week she missed the kick and clipped heels three furlongs out. We've always thought a lot of her and she's treated well. She's going to get a little break and we'll look for a race for her in January. She's a nice big filly, with plenty of size about her and we were even thinking about going over hurdles. This is my first winner in Ireland and she's my only winner. She won in Weatherby and is a good old stalwart to have around. we're based down in Myshall in Carlow and we've about 11 in at the minute between Flat and jumpers and a few point-to-pointers. We're kept going and we've a few nice horses that haven't run.
Rider leads home 1-2 for McGuinness
it was a recovery mission after last week but I was confident after seeing Secret Memories winning as he finished right in front of us last week. He's been a little bit disappointing because he's a lot better than what he is; he ran a couple of good solid races through the summer then petered out. We then said we'd keep him going here to see if we could get a win out of him. Stephen Thorne, my head lad, bought him for a bunch of his friends (Shamrock Thoroughbreds Syndicate) so I was under a little bit of pressure! He's happy and Mikey, who drives the lorry for me and is Stephen's uncle, is also involved so it's a big family affair.
Deja vu as Piper completes McGuinness double
she's been very consistent on her last three of four runs and a little unlucky once or twice. We probably made a little bit too much use of her the last day and we had a nice draw tonight so I told Donagh to jump and sit behind a couple. The race panned out perfectly and he gave her a super ride. She's game and hardy. I trained the dam (Distant Piper) to win five races and the boys (We're Back Syndicate) bred her themselves. The dam was hardy and she's exactly like her. She won well at the end and I'll see what the handicapper does to her.

Connection gains maiden win for Oliver & Hayes
she's a filly we liked and as with all of these maidens we had a backlog with our horses this year and we are just getting them out now. I was disappointed slightly with her last run, when we thought she'd nearly win, and she came back to form there tonight. We thought the outside draw might be tricky and I just asked Chris (Hayes) to keep it simple. She jumped well and he gave her a lovely ride, nice and sweet. Hopefully she's progressive - we certainly think she is and there is more to come. She's a well-bred filly, being by Pivotal out of a Galileo mare, so it's nice to have her bracket now and hopefully she'll kick on from that. She loves that surface and she's one I wouldn't mind keeping for next year because she's a nice mover, has a good attitude, does things well and Chris said afterwards 'I think she's improving'. She's also thriving which is always a good sign.

Coakley completes Dundalk double
that wasn't plan A but Ross used his head and gave him a great ride. He did it well in the end. He's a good horse and that's nine he's after winning for us over the years. The plan was to give him a break as he's in a while; he ran during the summer and won one for us at the Curragh and the plan was to give him a break and we'll probably stick to it.
