Codd times it well on Westland Row
I thought it might have been a tricky enough day. We had loads of chances without seeing what would win. It's grand to get off to a good start. We knew it was a long run to the last and we didn't want to be in front too soon so we are happy enough. We'll keep him going all summer.
Mysticaltou appreciates faster ground
She's her own worst enemy, she can pull a bit and she can be very, very keen but Barry gave her a great ride there. My Betty was always going to make it. The race went a treat for her. I didn't recommend them to back her after the last day when she fell out of the stalls in Dundalk but maybe she was in season. It's great, she deserved it. She's probably never run on ground with firm in it before so maybe we have found the key to her.
Fly Rory Fly gets the job done
He's lazy. I'd say he will probably be better jumping fences. He's a big horse but he does seem to handle the ground so I'd say we will keep going. I wouldn't be surprised if he does go over fences sooner rather than later. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out in that novice hurdle at Kilbeggan next week either. We'll see how he is when he comes home. He wants a a really good gallop, the quicker they go the better.
Elliott & Codd double up with Julio
He was the one we really fancied coming up. He's owned by Danny Charlesworth from England so it's nice he won again. He just likes the good ground. In Fairyhouse he just got bogged down, Fairyhouse did a great job and it was well watered. He ran well and he'll win again hopefully.
Brassil gets some spin off Kilderry Prince
He jumped to the front and fair play to Andrew and Dave Reardon and another chap in Kilkenny who is an osteopath who have been working on him since last year. He's a different horse. He won his point-to-point this weekend last year, he has won on that kind of ground. He's been running on bad ground all winter and running well. He ran in Thurles and he's 10lb higher over hurdles and he was only beaten 10 lengths over two miles. He doesn't jump a hurdle as well as he jumps a fence. He was second in Tramore and is after running well twice here so he likes quirky little tracks. I still don't think the finish here suits him as he's not an out and out stayer but his jumping is just electric. The plan was to hold him up in fifth or sixth but as Conor said he just jumped well. I asked Conor what he was like jumping and he said 'Oh My God'. What a spin (he gave him). Jack Kennedy rode him over hurdles the last day and said he'd be spot-on for the next day and while he wasn't able to ride today, we had an able sub in Conor Brassil. He'll mix it between hurdles and fences for the summer.
Landmark winner for Delahunt up north
He stuck at it well, he's a game horse. Donal gave him a great ride. His jumping can be in and out and everything went well today for him. He's very tricky early on and we are delighted for Donal. He actually fell the last day when the other horse of mine won, Das Mooser. It worked out well today. We'll keep him going, I think there is a winners of one down in Killarney in a couple of weeks time. If he's okay he will probably go for that.
Penny completes Codd/Elliott 20/1 treble
We are after having three winners and three seconds, a couple of them beaten two heads down below (in Cork). The horses are running well so it's nice to get the season up and running. She's a nice mare. She wants a bit further and has a good pedigree. She'll do her job.
