Desiderata wins Dundalk opener
he did what I always thought he would do!. He's a bit tricky and maybe babyish more than anything but the penny is after dropping with him now. He did threaten to be a good horse early on and fair play to Rory (Cleary) as he needed a strong ride.
Halford/Foley/Lordan Crowned champions!
Taaffe back on the Dundalk winners' list!
that's my first winner for my wife Elaine and it's also my first winner, from only a few runners, on the polytrack. I did train my first winner as a trainer at the 'old' Dundalk though; Only A Rose, ridden by John Shortt in 1994. Great Soprano has progressed from the last day and loves the good surface. He was a bit free early and was in front a bit sooner than we would have liked but he could turn out to be a nice horse. He'll go on his holidays now and come back when we eventually get good ground.
One horse trainer has second win in 28 days
over a mile he was probably a bit tapped for toe early but he runs to the line every time. He's in good form and we'll keep going if there's a race for him.
Elleval scores for Marnane/Lynch
Elleval is a horse who I rate highly and he is improving with every run. He is a big baby, very immature, and he'll be a nice horse next year over a mile and a quarter. Additional reporting by Alan Magee
Bangalore has the edge
Bangalore Diamond doesn't do too much when he gets to the front but at least he won't get too much for only winning by a head! We'll keep him at it over the winter.
Carroll completes double on Shukhov
he (Shukhov) was beaten in a few tight finishes in maidens and that was a long time overdue! He had a wind operation and he has come back good in the autumn and he has got his confidence back. If the handicapper isn't too hard on him he should be able to win another one or two over the winter. I'm delighted for Sean (Jones) who is a great supporter of the yard and nice to get him a winner just before Christmas.
Aladdins Cave takes 2012 curtain call
that was a fair performance with that weight on his back. He is entered over Christmas but we'll probably put him away and wait for better turf ground.
