Mephisto rewards Keane with overdue win
we bought him out of Ralph Beckett's and this has been a long time coming as he has been very disappointing. The race just ran to suit him and everything worked out really well. He definitely wants good ground and I'd like to see a fence in front of him during the summer. He had two unlucky falls which he didn't deserve as he is a brilliant jumper. We'll go back hurdling and think about chasing for the summer. We'll keep him at two miles here but it is hard to get these races. Mark (Enright) is very good and is a very talented rider.
Surprise success for Fahey's filly Dayzee
she ran here a month ago and was very slowly out of the stalls. She always showed plenty at home but it was a shock how slow she was out of the stalls the last day. I'm delighted with the way she finished out today. Jack gave her a great ride, she took a while to find her feet and at the line hit it good and strong. She'll stay further and Jack said to me she was rolling around up the straight so there's improvement in her. I'd say she'll handle any ground, she's a tough, genuine and is so easy to deal with. She just needed time to mature as a two-year-old. There's no plans yet but she could be on the market.
Hartnett completes first double on O'Brien-bred newcomer
he was green coming out of the gates and I lost a couple of lengths and had to ride him a little more back in the field than I would have liked. They went an even gallop and it rode like a real nice race. I was happy down to the bend, was following the favourite (News At Ten) and had to get him to relax and breathe. He came into the straight lovely, up through the middle of them. I saw a gap to my left which he took and he sprinted away. When I got there, I gave him a little flick and he went on again — it was a nice performance. He is only learning and as a two-year-old, he took time to start to do things right. There's a big engine there and even to look at him, he's a fine horse. He's all there and is really strong. He's nicely bred by Churchill out of War Goddess and there is plenty of staying in his pedigree. It is nice to get one for Donnacha (O'Brien), the boss, which is the first start of 2023.
'I put the owners off coming' - Flynn's filly surprises at 16/1
the lads watched it at home but rang me and are all chuffed - they didn't come as I put them off!. The cheekpieces seemed to work, she jumped and travelled well and he gave her a great ride. It was great to see her winning. We'll keep her going here, I think she is an all-weather filly and think she'll keep progressing because she is quite weak. She will learn from that and maybe get more confidence.
