The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Minella Berry, trained by John E. Kiely, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be in respiratory distress post race. J.S. McGarvey, rider of Minella Berry trained by John E. Kiely, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stopped quickly and was pulled up. The Stewards interviewed P.D. Kennedy, rider of Candlestick, placed fourth, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion P.D. Kennedy was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency, and having taken his good record into account, they suspended him for 2 racedays.
