The winner, ESGEE NICS (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Chelmsford on 21 August 2021 where the gelding finished last of the five runners, beaten by 6 lengths.
Robyn Brisland's explanation that the gelding had benefitted from running in what he considered to be a weaker race, was noted; Essgee Nics (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that the winner, Essgee Nics (IRE), had lost its left- fore shoe; having viewed video recordings of the race it was found that the gelding lost the shoe when stumbling leaving the stalls.
