An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Druim Samhraidh (IRE), ridden by Mitchell Bastyan, and trained by Johnny Farrelly, which after racing prominently and being asked for an effort leaving the back straight, then appeared to be tenderly handled in the home straight to finish third, beaten by 5 ¾ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Bastyan stated his instructions were to get Druim Samhraidh (IRE) jumping in a rhythm, as the gelding unseated him on its previous run at Taunton 22 days ago and do the best he could.
He added that Druim Samhraidh (IRE) hung left-handed throughout and made a respiratory noise from half-way; both facts he had reported at scales.
He added that he was unable to ride the gelding as vigorously as he would have liked in the latter stages due to it persistently hanging.
He further added that, in his opinion, Druim Samhraidh (IRE) was initially outpaced when the tempo increased before staying on, and may appreciate a step up in trip in future.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Distant Universe (GB), which was pulled up, bled from the nose.
