It was noted that Joe The Beau (GB) had arrived at the course having sustained an injury to its mouth in transit to the racecourse.
Having been examined by the Veterinary Officer pre-race, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
Pytilia (USA) wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
Joe The Beau (GB), unseated its rider at the start and was caught immediately.

The Starter reported that Joe The Beau (GB) was unruly behind the stalls.

An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after the start involving Joe The Beau (GB), unplaced, ridden by Paul Mulrennan, Havana Ooh Na Na (GB), placed seventh, ridden by Clifford Lee, the winner, Fields Of Athenry (USA), ridden by P J McDonald, Wave Walker (GB), unplaced, ridden by Gary Mahon and Chicago Doll (GB), placed third, ridden by David Probert.
The interference was found to be accidental and caused by Joe The Beau (GB) shifting right-handed while racing greenly at the same time as Havana Ooh Na Na (GB) edged left-handed, causing Chicago Doll (GB) to be checked, Wave Walker (GB) to be tightened for room and Fields Of Athenry (USA) to be inconvenienced.
The performance of Balladeer (GB), which started favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.
The representative of Michael Bell’s explanation that the gelding had missed the break, having been unsettled by Joe The Beau (GB) misbehaving in the stall next door, was noted.
Following the race, Katherine Begley reported that Balata Bay (GB), unplaced, hung left-handed, Jason Watson reported that Fares Poet (IRE), placed second, hung right-handed in the home straight and Rossa Ryan reported that Shir Khan (GB), placed fifth, was denied a clear run.
