The Stewards interviewed W.J. Lee, rider of Bell Ex One, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who felt that the first strike was for corrective purposes but accepted that he had used his whip excessively. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that W.J. Lee was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g)(frequency). Having considered the rider's record in this regard and pursuant to Regulation 10.6(a), the Stewards suspended W.J. Lee for 6 racedays
W.J. Lee, rider of Bell Ex One trained by R.P.Cody, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount rolled left
S. Foley, rider of Social Distance trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount leaned right
R.P. Whelan, rider of Brehon Star trained by Mark Michael McNiff, reported to the Clerk of Scales that he lost an iron
The Stewards enquired into an incident just before the turn in involving Bell Ex One, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed second, Cosa Sara, ridden by C.D. Hayes, unplaced and In The Attic, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, unplaced, where it appeared interference occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. W.J. Lee stated that made a slight manoeuvre out from behind a horse coming back but didn't think he caused much interference. C.D. Hayes said his filly was feeling the ground and already back peddling when the gap closed in front of him and had no affect on his finishing position. J.A. Heffernan stated that his challenge was over when feeling slight pressure from his inside
Based on the video evidence provided in that area of the track the Stewards were unable to arrive at a definitive conclusion and therefore gave W.J. Lee the benefit of the doubt on this occasion and took no further action.
An extended handicap for three years old only (75 = 9st 12lbs)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 9st 12lbs and the minimum weight shall not be less than 8st 6lbs
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 6lb extra for each race won.
