An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Loughermore (IRE), ridden by Amie Waugh and trained by Simon Waugh which was tenderly handled at the rear of the field throughout, to finish last of six, beaten 38 lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that several post-race examinations of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that her instructions were to tuck in behind and see how Loughermore (IRE) jumped and travelled.
She further added that she felt the gelding was going as fast as he could on the ground and in the future Loughermore (IRE) would be better suited by a step up in trip and softer ground.
The trainer’s representative stated that she agreed with the instructions and was satisfied with the ride given to Loughermore (IRE).
Amie Waugh was suspended for 14 days and Simon Waugh was fined £3,000 for schooling and conditioning the horse on the racecourse in that the gelding had not been asked for timely, real or substantial effort on its first run over hurdles after an absence of 475 days.
Loughermore (IRE) was suspended from running in any race for 40 days.
