The Stewards interviewed P.J. Smullen, rider of Initial, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount drifted outwards in the latter stages and that his whip use was necessary to correct his horse and prevent interference. Evidence was also heard from Mr. D.K.Weld, trainer of Initial. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards accepted the explanation offered and took no further action.
