the ground made the difference and I need a kick in the head because I was running him in bad ground everywhere and he couldn't handle it. He won his bumper in heavy ground at Limerick and that codded me all along - he's just a different horse on goodish ground.

The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Noel Meade, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Lieutenant Command (FR), placed first, as compared with its previous run in the Thyestes Grade A Handicap Steeplechase on soft to heavy ground at Gowran Park on the 26th January when pulled up. Noel Meade reported that his charge appreciated the better underfoot conditions today. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the content of the report
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Birchdale, trained by E. Bolger, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to have a wound on the outside of the left fore pastern but otherwise to be post race normal
