The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the straight involving Fakir D'alene (FR), ridden by Mr R

James, placed first, and Donkey Years, ridden by M.P. Walsh, placed second, where it appeared interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Mr. R. James stated that while his mount did lean out he felt it made no difference to the result. M.P. Walsh stated that he received a bump before the last and again received interference after the last on the run to the line. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that while Fakir D'alene had caused interference to Donkey Years, he did not improve his finishing position as a result of this interference so they made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. They were, however, of the opinion that Mr. R. James, was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record in this regard the Stewards cautioned him on this occasion

The Stewards interviewed Mr R. James, rider of Fakir D'alene (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted he had used his whip excessively and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that Mr. R. James was in breach of R10.3g(frequency) and having considered his record, they suspended him for 1 raceday.

An extended handicap steeplechase for five years old and upwards (130 = 11st 12lbs)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 11st 12lbs and the minimum weight shall not be less than 9st 12lbs
Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap shall carry 5lb extra for each steeplechase won.
