The Stewards interviewed D.J.Mullins, rider of Phar Island, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(b), in that he continued to use the whip after his chance of winning or being placed had clearly gone and having considered his record, suspended him for one race day. The Stewards fined Gordon Elliott, trainer, ?350 for lodging a passport in respect of Doldrum Bay, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
